LIVING IN A WORLD OF BLACK AND WHITE
In the middle of a stressful week (preparing to write exams), I sat on the bus and thought, "Haven't I been living in a world of black and white?" Yeah, I love dressing in black and white, but have I been dressing my existence in that, too?
In the symmetry of life, where emotions once danced in vibrant hues, I found myself entangled in a haunting melody of black and white. Here is the story of my struggle with mental health, a journey that began with a monochromatic canvas and eventually led me to rediscover the vivid colours hidden within.
Life, once a kaleidoscope of emotions, began to lose its richness. Joy and sorrow became indistinct, fading into a world where hope and despair took turns on the stage of my mind. It was as if someone had turned the volume down on the music of life, leaving behind a dissonant silence.
Amidst the isolating shadows, I found an unlikely companion – music (remember I said in my first blog that I love music). The melodies became my refuge, a soundtrack to my emotions when words failed. It was through music that I found solace, a fleeting escape from the stark realities of a world confined to black and white.
Music became my lifeline, a symphony that carried me through the darkest nights. Each note was a brushstroke, adding depth to the canvas of my emotions. In the lyrics, I discovered echoes of my own struggles, and in the melodies, I found a language that transcended the confines of the monochromatic world I inhabited.
However, survival, as I learned, is about evolving. The very music that once saved me now serves as a backdrop to my journey of independence. It's a transition from relying on the melodies of others to composing the soundtrack of my own life. It's an acknowledgment that the colours I seek can be found within, waiting to be painted onto the canvas of my existence.
As I navigate this evolving symphony of survival, I'm reminded that my story is not unique. Countless others are also facing their struggles in a world that can sometimes feel void of colour. Let's amplify the melodies of empathy and understanding. Let's recognize that mental health is a shared journey, and support is a universal language. Together, we can compose a harmonious narrative that embraces the entire spectrum of human experience.
Life's melody may still sway between black and white, but in the crescendo of our collective stories, let's find the courage to add our own hues. It's a promise to ourselves and others that, even in a world that may seem painted in contrasts, we are all capable of creating a masterpiece filled with the vibrant colours of hope, resilience, and compassion.
Cheers to adding our hues to our life's melody🎉
